You may or not know that I’ve been on generic Synthroid for over a week. I will save my discussion of generics v. name brands for another time. I’ve been keeping track of my symptoms and I have noticed a slight change. Here are my changes:
- Fewer naps (some days none)
- Fewer mood swings
- Scalp itchiness
- Dry skin
- Worsening insomnia
- Memory inconsistencies
Ok so it looks like some things are better and some are not. All of this just shows me that the medicine is now in my system. I can say that I am only experiencing about a 25% improvement so I’m not sure how I feel about it.
Fellow Hypothyroid sufferer Steph at http://www.annoyinglydomestic.com/ sent me a link of sites that I’m trying to get through. Among the sites was one that contained a list of “Pathetic” symptoms of Hypothyroid. Let’s examine the list, shall we? I want to point out that these symptoms can linger even while ON a thyroid med.
| Less stamina than others | Less energy than others | Long recovery period after any activity |
| Chronic Low Grade Depression | Often feeling cold | Cold hands and feet |
| Constipation | No eyebrows or thinning outer eyebrows | Dry Hair |
| Hair Loss | No hair growth, breaks faster than it grows | Dry cracking skin |
| Nodding off easily | Requires naps in the afternoon | Inability to concentrate or read long periods of time |
| Forgetfulness | Foggy thinking | Inability to function in a relationship with anyone |
| NO sex drive | Failure to ovulate and/or constant bleeding | Moody periods |
| PMS | Breakout on chest and arms | Exhaustion in every dimension – physical, mental, spiritual, emotional |
| Inability to work full-time | Inability to stand on feet for long periods | Complete lack of motivation |
| Extremely crabby, irritable, intolerant of others | Broken/peeling fingernails | Dry skin or snake skin |
| Major anxiety/worry | Ringing in ears | Lactose Intolerance |
| No Appetite | Low body temperature | Allergies (which can also be a result of low cortisol–common with hypothyroid patients) |
| Headaches and Migraines | now how do I put this one politely.…a cold bum, butt, derriere, fanny, gluteus maximus, haunches, hindquarters, posterior, rear, and/or cheeks. Yup, really exists. |
NOTE: These are only MY symptoms. If you want to examine the complete pathetic list for yourself, you’ll find it at: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/long-and-pathetic/.
As you may remember me complaining about: it makes it hard for one to job search when you can’t remember things.
