Graduation Party Prep

If you’ve paid any attention to my recent ramblings you’ll know a) I’m crazy and b) I’m reluctantly getting ready for number one son’s high school graduation.  When I’m tense, frustrated or angry, it often helps me if I clean, so the past few days have been full of cleaning!  Actual party prep began back in the spring.  Here is what I’ve done in the past few months in anticipation of this event:

Spring:  re-laid new mulch, weeded, purchased a few potted plants, pruned trees, bushes, and flowers.  Had husband cut down very unsightly juniper bush.  Purchased yard “art”.

This week:

  • had number one son dust all the furniture, vacuum, wipe down kitchen cabinets, microwave and fridge for fingerprints, pick up entryway rug, move extra furniture to the basement, vacuumed curtains for cobwebs,
  • my duties:  dust the ceiling fan, spot clean the carpet, vacuum under the furniture (tried to keep dog from attacking the vacuum), which lead to cleaning the gunk off of the aluminum siding outside (don’t know why), threw away a dead houseplant, wiped down walls and ceilings for cobwebs, wiped down the fireplace, dusted and rearranged the coffee table books (don’t want the grands to see a copy of skinny bitch laying around), dusted the pictures on the walls, scrubbed the stove top, the back splash thing and the knobs, lifted up the top of the stove (gagging) and cleaned underneath there, soaked and scrubbed those pan things that go around the fire/burner things, scrubbed all the kitchen counters, cleared off big appliances (caterer needs room) and moved to basement, drank two bottles of water, and scrubbed the kitchen sink.
  • pumpkin’s duties: wipe down all the baseboards, prolly other stuff

Tomorrow’s duties (mostly done by the kids):

  • clean the powder room, mop the powder room floor
  • windex all the first floor windows and the front door
  • clean the kids’ bathroom
  • wipe off the top of the refrigerator
  • pick up last minute snacks, drinks, etc
  • order cake for Saturday
  • pick up my corsage
  • confirm with caterer
  • mop kitchen floor and entryway floor
  • order dinner foods (pizza or something)
  • put extensions in table
  • bring up and clean card table, cover with tablecloth
  • iron number one son’s graduation outfit and gown
  • receive grands after 3pm
  • ????

Saturday’s duties:

  • Empty refrigerator
  • Clear off counters
  • Ice drinks
  • Put out tablecloths
  • put out plates, napkins, etc
  • ???

Now do you see why I didn’t want to have the party at the house? Sheesh.
