Not only is today Wednesday, but it’s Cinco de Mayo. That’s May 5th for all of you who aren’t trilingual like me. I lived in Texas for approximately 10 years and we celebrated Cinco de Mayo all the time. Especially when I lived in San Antonio. Problem is, as you know, I don’t remember much. I have snippets of memory of being in San Antone (prolly on the Riverwalk) and drinking and seeing lots of ribbons, bright colors, dancing and music. But that could be any night on the Riverwalk! So I’m unsure. Perhaps I’m confabulating again.
When I lived in San Antone I never really knew the significance of Cinco de Mayo. As far as I was concerned, it just looked like another excuse to party. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Given that I don’t live there anymore I decided to look up the real meaning of the holiday. So, according to Mexonline.com, the day is important because it celebrates the Mexican army’s victory over the French. So, it’s a really big day in the city of Puebla, Mexico given its historical
significance. You can read more about it here if you want: http://www.mexonline.com/cinco-de-mayo.htm. And now, thanks to US alcohol distributors, it’s now becoming a big holiday in the states. Especially ones that have a large Mexican population. And that’s ok too, cuz I love my Latino brethren and sisteren(?).
I am unsure why, but I’ve been having a lot of memory issues lately. Yesterday, I thought it was Cinco de Mayo. See, when I wake up in the morning, I don’t automatically know what day it is. I hafta stop and think “what day is it? hmmm yesterday was XX so today must be…YY!”. Initially I didn’t do that yesterday morning. So I was confused for a little while. Turns out it was Star Wars day. I do have very fond (although brief) memories of standing online to see Star Wars with a friend who is no longer with us. But that may be another blog post, hmmm? Anyway, I woke up today and said to myself “yesterday was…Tuesday because I went to work…so today must be…Wednesday. Which means it’s Cinco de Mayo!”
But anyway, again. Like I said, my memory has been goofing off more and more lately. Like this weekend. Sunday was the day after prom and the boy had to work. If you read my blog (and if you give a crap) you’ll know that I spent a lot of time running around on Sunday. The man said he would pick the boy up from work. Great, one less thing I hafta do! Problem is, the boy gets off at closing which is approximately 7pm. Closing can take a while sometimes so the boy often calls home for a ride, rather than us sitting waiting for him in the parking lot. The boy reminded me of this Sunday and I was supposed to tell the man. But I forgot. So the man was there for a while waiting. Fortunately he could walk around the mall and window shop, but still he was waiting prolly an hour. The boy texts me on the way home and says “youre in big trouble”. I said “why” and then it hit me. Ooopsie! I was supposed to tell the man to wait for the phone call. But the man was not that mad. He knows my memory is bad and he tried (real hard) to be good natured about it. He’s a good guy!
And so that brings me back to my brain farts again. Hoping this new semi vegan diet will help. It cant hurt, right?
