I’ve been having trouble keeping up with all the papers and bits of things I need to look at during the course of a day. I’m stuck on my Android and feel like I can’t live without it, but it doesn’t seem to be doing the things I needed it to do or at least not as well as my Blackberry did. To be sure, I’m able to update on Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare till my fingers ache. But as far as keeping track of some appointments and notes there is a void. Since January I’ve kept a little notebook in my purse. I use it for everything, appointments, notes, grocery lists, passwords, you name it. But then in addition I’ve noticed I still keep odd bits of paper in my purse with scribbles of more notes. It all becomes very overwhelming and I feel as if I am not in control of everything. In fact I feel as if I’m not in control of anything. And like Janet, I am in CONTROL. So what to do?
I thought about getting one of those cute little mom agendas (http://www.momagenda.com/) but wasn’t sure if I would like it and I need to be able to actually hold it and flip through its pages to see if it would work. So I settled on a fairly generic day planner. I’m hoping this will be a place where I can consolidate all my bits of paper and notes and notebook and appointment cards, coupons (in theory) etc. Meanwhile I gave the new planner a try today.
Included in my day was a dermatologist appointment. It was a follow up to last week’s biopsy. I got the stitches removed (yeeouch!) and also received a few more steroid injections (still counterintuitive). The diagnosis was alopecia, but I already knew that. All alopecia means is hair loss, ok so what kind of alopecia? The answer is Telogen effluvium which means a whole bunch of hair loss caused by a bunch of hair being in the resting phase rather than in the growing phase. Yep, knew that too! According to the Merck Manual online: http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec10/ch124/ch124b.html telogen effluvium (TE) is caused mostly by a bunch of things: thyroid, drugs/medication, malnutrition, and stress (there’s that word again). Good news is that this kind of hair loss is non scarring. Yay. Sometimes I get really mad when I think about how that dermatologist I saw in the winter did nothing for me. I could be on my way to longer hair! Or at least, more hair. But anyway, what all this means is that I’m gonna hafta keep going back for more shots, use the special shampoo and scalp oil she gave me, as well as start an antibiotic. Yuck. WE HATE ANTIBIOTICS. With a passion. Seriously.
In addition to that diagnosis (remember my post about how many diagnoses can you get for a buck?) the derm also said I have folliculitis. This funky sounded thing is an infection in my hair. Ew. I just threw up in my mouth a little. This is what the antibiotic is for. I think in my case it is caused by dermatitis or some other kind of condition (hmmm maybe THYROID????). The crap part of this is that it can also lead to hair loss.
So there you are. Or there I am.
