I love the ladies from SATC. I have been watching the show since its inception: it was a great excuse to buy the much coveted HBO. Anyway, I’ve followed the ladies through all of their trials and tribulations, cried, yelled at and talked to them. When the show ended I felt like my friends had left me. I was sad and lost. By that time I had lost all hope in TV. When SATC came back in reruns on TBS I was thrilled.
To be sure, I compared myself to “the girls” and often shared similar life experiences. This is, I’m sure, part of the attraction of the show. When the first movie was released I was thrilled to be reunited with my girlfriends. All the hype surrounding the first movie, of course, helped arouse my interest. The second movie, not so much.
Life changes so many things and while that idea is reflected in the movie, it is also reflected in my own life, so I guess life really does imitate art. I, like Samantha, experience hot flashes and mood swings, but I’m also dealing with other issues. The memory loss and other issues pull me away from my BFFs: I don’t care as much about them because I can’t remember much about the series.
Another thing that kept me from enjoying the movie was the location. To be sure, Morocco/Abu Dhabi is a beautiful and exotic location, but to me, it wasn’t what I wanted to see. As always, New York City has been part of the appeal of the Fab Four. I loved seeing them navigate the city on their various adventures. How much more appealing would it have been watching them do their dailies as mothers and wives in The City. Their homes are lovely, but I want to see The City (of Sex and the City), NOT Abu Dhabi. Sex and the City without The City isn’t the same. Also, the stars’ personalities have become so big that they have taken over the movie and not allowed room for my beloved city. I missed the city as the fifth character.
If there is a SATC 3 I will probably watch it, but certainly not with the same gusto as I enjoyed the series or even the first movie.

Can you believe that I’ve never seen an episode of Sex in The City? I think I need to get the DVDs and start from the beginning!

Hi! Thanks for the follow. Trying to follow you too… but the widgets are overlapping on my screen. we’re here though!
I’m visiting from Lady Bloggers, and I couldn’t agree more about SATC. Well, I guess I can’t agree with the hot flashes, but the overall sentiment. I’m actually going to see the movie on Monday but only because it’s my friend’s birthday and she wants to go. I wasn’t too pleased with the first movie, and this one seems like a stretch. And like you said, how can it be SATC without the city?? The show always made me want to go to New York. And that’s why I actually didn’t like the few episodes where they went to LA. Just not the same…
The City is a very important aspect. I mean, it’s not called Sex in the Suburbs or Sex in the Desert.

Sex in the Suburbs? ew, how boring!
Thanks for visiting! I want to hear your opinion of the movie, too. I think overall it didnt get the rave reviews that they were expecting. Oh well…
thanks for visiting mandy and suzy!
Agree with you on this one — I totally loved the series, and thought the first movie was good not great. While am mildly curious about the new movie, and will likely see it at some point, have much less interest in a Sex Without the City type idea…
