photography tips

ok so today i am eschewing (nice, huh?) the friend friday meme cuz i am taking a stab at taking pictures for the looking up theme at NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month, just in case youre like wait, what?).  Despite what my mother thinks, that because i took a photography class in the 6th grade, i cannot take a decent photo. i see what i see, hurry up and push the button and go. i usually miss the actual shot. you can look at my kid’s prom pictures for proof.  my mum, when looking at photos i’ve taken will ask “what is this supposed to be?” and i’ll tell her.  But anywway. where was i? oh yeah. so for today i decided to look up around me and shoot a pic of what i saw. because i’m so clever i decided to take a pic of my stairwell.

i do not claim to be any kind of photographer (think i said that up there) and i also do not claim to have any decorating sense.  but here’s my stairwell wall of shame: it includes a hodgepodge of things i like: a couple of wedding shots, a metal butterfly, some pics of the kids and other family members, and some random framed art work that i picked up in a thrift shop.

my next look up photo is one of my prized possessions: a Gustav Klimit piece framed by my lovely and talented friend Barb from Schang-Hai Gallerie, Skippack’s best kep secret. How was that for a shameless plug? <guffaw> In case you were a wonderin what’s so hot about Gus here, lemme tell ya (hold on here comes an art history lesson).  This little piece is called The Kiss.  Why? cuz its two folks kissin, i reckon. There’s all kinds of blah blah blah important artsy knowledge stuff but the most important thing to know is: i like it. was drawn to it years ago. i dont know why. maybe the gold colors. maybe the fact that she’s kneeling and he’s standing over her. maybe cuz they are lovers. and she looks so serene. dunno really. sometimes you can’t explain why you’re attracted to certain things. i blogged the other day about art and how it makes me feel.

the next and final (i know say it “thank goodness!”) thing i want to show you are my roosters.  now be advised i’m not really into that country look, although i’m ok if others like it. its just not for me. I like the rooster because a long time ago i was sorta kinda into feng shui, which is the placement of stuff around the house to bring postive vibes or something.  Anywway, i discovered that the rooster could be substituted for the phoenix which meant something. rebirth or something. which appeals to me. of course, now i have forgotten for sure. but these roosters are part of my collection. i only have a few. serioulsy. i try not to go crazy with them cuz i dont want my kitchen to look like the crazy rooster lady. mostly i get them at thrift stores.

and now for this.
