if i ruled the world

On this mother’s day I thought I would look at things differently. To be sure, we’re all thankful either to have been a mother or to our mothers, or both. But I want to think about what if mother’s ruled the world.  So, since I’m a mother, the thought becomes “if I ruled the world”.  Or maybe it should be if Mothers ruled the world. Here it goes.

If I ruled the world:

• No mother would EVER have to bury her child. Ever.
• Criminals would get 5 minutes alone with the mother of the victim to do whatever she wants to do to that person (offer forgiveness or beat the crap out of them, etc.)
• Everyone would have access to affordable healthcare and medicine. There would be no such thing as choosing between eating and meds.
• No mother would ever have to choose between staying home with her baby or not staying home with her baby and feeling criticized for her decision. Enough already.
• High heels would be illegal. Seriously.
• Granny panties would be sexy. Cuz they’re comfy.
• A woman would not have to sell her body for money.  Yeah.
• Catcalling would be a punishable crime. Cuz we hate it guys, really.
• Auto repair places would be much more comfortable and more appealing to women (since we’re the ones who have to sit there. For hours).
• Housekeeping, childcare services, teaching and other female dominated positions would be the high paying jobs.  Sports and entertainment personalities would get paid, like, minimum wage.
• Reality TV stars would go away
• People are allowed to practice whatever religion they want. In peace. Really.
• Physical and sexual abusers would get a taste of their own medicine. (see #2).
• Rappers would no longer be allowed to call women bitches, whores, or the “c” word or anything else that is degrading to women.
• We would really strive toward world peace.
• The Family Dinner Hour would return.
• No child would ever go to bed hungry. Ever.
• Every child would have their own bed to sleep in.
• No child would be cold at night.
• Victims of natural disasters would get the help they need regardless of sex, race, socioeconomic background or pet ownership
• Racism (sexism, and all the other ‘isms’) would be eradicated.
• Models can be all shapes, sizes, and colors. Cuz we’re tired of looking at skinny hungry looking people.

Those last six or so ones were thought of by my 13 year old daughter. If all of these issues were resolved I think mothers all over the world really could have a happy mother’s day.   Do you have any you would add to the list? Let me know.
