confabulation is the production of false memories. memories that either have not occured (a ride in an alien spaceship) or mixed up memories (generally that you did not experience). people who confabulate are not trying to decieve. they genuinely believe that these experiences happened. A similar experience is called false memory syndrome in which people suddenly remember repressed childhood abuses or traumas. both situations generally result from brain injury. i do not have a brain injury, but i often wonder if i’m confabulating. for example: while watching a recap of the miracle on ice from the 1980 olympics i felt like i remembered watching that whole game and enjoying the results. thing is, i would have been 13 and in junior high. not sure if i was into ice hockey until high school. so is that a false memory?
did you know that african americans are twice as likely as whites to develop alzheimer’s disease? yup.
